In Independence Missouri, a man who is dying of cancer found a rather unique way to attend his 10 year-old daughter’s wedding. Johnny Wells, 10 year-old Nakeol’s father, decided to have a ceremony where his daughter could make promises to be faithful to the man she married. Johnny Wells has been battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for the last 5 years.

Wells knows he won’t be alive long enough to see his baby girl get married so he came up with his own way of giving his daughter a “wedding” ceremony. Well’s gave his daughter a diamond ring with two hearts on it. He said the little girl is not to stop wearing it until she gets married. The little girl was also asked to promise to search for a husband until she found “a godly man to marry.”

The ritual took place on a calm Sunday and was filmed so that the little girl can watch the video whenever she needs to. Glenda Wells, Nakeol’s mom, said that his daughter is the only reason why he has stayed alive fighting the disease for 5 years. It truly was his dying wish to be a part of his Nakeol’s wedding day.

The “wedding” gave the family a lot more than just a memory. They say they’ve received amazing feedback from all over the world about the touching ritual. They claim that many people have told them they wished they had thought of an idea like that when someone they loved passed on.

Johnny Well’s wife, Glenda Wells, was happy with the loving memories the ceremony have left behind for their daughter. Nakeol is already planning to take this ceremony to another level. She says she will play the video before her wedding and have her flower girl wear the dress she wore before her father at the “wedding” ceremony.
